Marketing Development Engineer

It's Today Media is an affiliate marketing company. We buy media at scale to build email and SMS lists. ROI is everything to our business. Staying on the cutting edge of marketing execution is how we continue winning.

AI tools and agentic systems have become critical to staying on that cutting edge. The team has already shipped real things with AI, but building and maintaining these tools takes valuable time and energy. We need the right engineer to own this work and help take our team to the next level.

This is the perfect job for someone who is obsessed with building AI-powered tools that drive real results for real businesses.

What you’d actually do

The scope of this role is wide on purpose. The point of this hire is to build whatever unlocks the most value for our media buying operation. A few examples of what we're actively building now:

  • End-to-end video creative generator.
  • Automated ad creation and upload workflow via MCP server.
  • Landing page generator and content management system.

Those are three. There are more. The right person walks in, learns the business, and starts seeing opportunities I haven't articulated yet — and chases them.

The right person for this job will see opportunities that we're currently missing and heavily influence their own trajectory within the organization.

Who you work with

This role is embedded with the media buying team. These are the people whose problems you will be solving. You will work closely with them every day, as well as with our developers, when your builds touch our broader tech stack.

The people you will work with every day care about getting shit done. That's the attitude the right person for this job will have from day one.

Who this is not for

Here's some filtering, told straight. If any of these are you, this role will make you miserable and I'll end up unhappy too.

  • You need to be told what to do.
The whole point of this hire is that I want someone who sees opportunity and moves on it. If you go quiet without a ticket, this is the wrong place.
  • You're afraid to take risks.
The right person for this role moves on opportunity before it's certain. If you wait for permission and proof, you'll fall behind.
  • You're afraid to speak up and defend a point of view.
Disagreement is part of how we get to the right answer.
  • You take comfort in predictable hours.
Our employees have real flexibility when they are doing their jobs well, but the nature of our business requires our team to be available outside of standard business hours occasionally.
  • You can't take critical, honest feedback.
You will get it here, often, and the people who grow are the ones who use it.
  • You are not interested in businesses.
This role is about growing our business through better tools. To do the job well, you have to understand and care about the impact your work has on the business.
  • You are looking for a predictable, stress-free workday.
We have a ton of fun doing our jobs and winning, but our work is more chaotic than most.

Compensation

Compensation will be competitive and based on experience and capabilities.

The winner could be a senior engineer making $200K+ somewhere else who's tired of building products that don't matter. It could be a marketer making $75K who's been quietly shipping wild stuff with Claude and Cursor on the side and is ready for someone to bet on them.

Or anything in between.

This contest leaves out an explicit salary range on purpose. I don't know what the right person for this job looks like, but I am excited to find out and see what cool stuff people can build.

Here's the commitment: the right person gets a competitive offer with strong base and real performance-driven upside. The whole point of hiring this role is to build things that make the company more money. When you do that, you share in the win.

I'm staying away from a number on the upside because I want to keep the cap off. The cap is your output. The better you are, the more you make. That's how this works.

Why you should be excited about this opportunity

This is a new role at the intersection of two fields that are both moving fast. The potential is genuinely huge. AI capabilities expand every month, and the companies that figure out how to use them in marketing first will own outsized wins.

Someone who walks in, ships killer tools, gets into the flow of the team, and keeps delivering will move fast at this company — more responsibility, more compensation, more autonomy. That's the pattern for the people who deliver here.

Blow our minds for a year in this role, and I promise you will not be disappointed. I do not believe there are many other opportunities out there that could genuinely compete.
